About volume units
A liter is the volume of a cube 10 cm on each side, so 1 L is 1,000 cm³ and 1 ml is exactly 1 cm³. A cubic meter holds 1,000 liters.
US and UK units with the same name are different sizes, and this causes most volume mistakes. The US gallon is 3.785411784 L and the UK (imperial) gallon is 4.54609 L, about 20% bigger. A US pint is 16 US fluid ounces (473.18 ml) and a UK pint is 20 UK fluid ounces (568.26 ml). Even the fluid ounces differ: 29.57 ml in the US, 28.41 ml in the UK.
Cooking adds more variants. A US cup is 236.59 ml, while recipes from Australia and New Zealand use a 250 ml metric cup. The unit names here say US, UK or metric, so pick the one your recipe or label uses.
