About milliliters and teaspoons
A US teaspoon is 4.92892 ml, so divide milliliters by 4.92892 to get teaspoons. For cooking, dividing by 5 is close enough: the result is about 1.4% low.
Medicine labels, dosing syringes and metric recipes give small amounts in ml, while US measuring spoons are marked in teaspoons. For anything you swallow as medicine, measure in ml with the syringe or cup that comes with it instead of converting to a kitchen spoon.
Examples
- 2.5 ml (a half-spoon medicine dose) is 0.507 tsp
- 5 ml (a 5 ml medicine spoon) is 1.01 tsp
- 15 ml (a metric tablespoon) is 3.04 tsp
- 250 ml (a metric cup) is 50.72 tsp
