How to convert teaspoons (US) to milliliters
- Take the value in teaspoons (US).
- Use the formula milliliters = teaspoons (US) × 4.928921594.
- For example, 1 tsp is 4.93 ml.
About teaspoons and milliliters
A US teaspoon is 1/6 of a US fluid ounce, which works out to 4.92892 ml. Multiply teaspoons by 4.92892 to get milliliters. In practice 5 ml is close enough for cooking: the difference is about 1.4%.
Baking recipes measure leavening, salt and spices in teaspoons, and liquid medicine doses are often given in ml. Medicine and metric measuring spoons use a teaspoon of exactly 5 ml, so use an oral syringe or the cup that comes with the medicine rather than a kitchen spoon.
Examples
- 1 tsp (one teaspoon) is 4.93 ml
- 3 tsp (one tablespoon) is 14.79 ml
- 6 tsp (one US fluid ounce) is 29.57 ml
- 48 tsp (one US cup) is 236.59 ml
