Privacy policy

The short version

The tools on utilz run entirely in your browser. Anything you type or paste into a tool is processed on your device and is never uploaded, stored or logged by us. We don't use cookies, we don't have accounts, and we don't sell or share personal information.

Data you enter into tools

Text, files and other input you give a tool stay in your browser. They aren't sent to our servers or to anyone else.

Some tools remember things for you in your browser's local storage, on your own device: for example your notes in the online notepad, an alarm you set, your typing test best scores, invoice details you save or the last settings you used. We can't see any of it. Clearing your browser's site data for utilz.net removes it.

The microphone, camera, tuner and similar tools only start when you allow them, and the sound or picture is analysed on the page itself. Nothing is recorded unless you press a record or photo button, and recordings and photos are saved only to your device.

Tools that can use your location, such as sunrise and sunset times, only ask when you press the button to use it, and the position is used on the page to do the calculation. Tools that read your phone's motion sensors, like the bubble level, work the same way: the readings stay on the page and aren't stored or sent anywhere.

One exception to keep in mind: text to speech uses the voices built into your browser. Voices marked online are provided by your browser's maker and send the text to their speech service to be read aloud. The tool labels these voices and lists on-device voices first.

Some tools need extra code or data to work, such as the HEIC photo decoder, the MP3 encoder or the text recognition engine. Your browser downloads it from utilz.net the first time you use that tool. The download is the same for everyone and carries no information about your files.

The AI tools are the one exception: their models are downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co and its file servers on cdn.hf.co), a site that hosts open-source AI models, so Hugging Face sees that download request. These are the Kokoro voice model (AI voice generators), the ORMBG model (background remover), Swin2SR (image upscaler) and OpenAI's Whisper (speech to text). Each downloads only when you first use that tool and is then kept by your browser. Your text, photos and recordings are never sent to Hugging Face or anyone else; the AI runs on your device.

Information collected when you visit

utilz is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information needed to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for details.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across websites, and doesn't collect personal information. It only gives us aggregate numbers.

Cookies and local storage

utilz doesn't set cookies. Settings are saved in your browser's local storage so they're remembered next time: your choice of light or dark mode, the options you last used in a tool (such as the text recognition language or JSON indentation), and the state of the stopwatch and timer so they keep running if you reload the page. This never leaves your device, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

If you allow notifications, the timer, Pomodoro timer and alarm clock show one when they finish. Your browser creates the notification on your device; nothing is sent through a server.

Children

utilz isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.

Your rights

Because we don't collect personal information through the tools, there's usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you have a question or request about your data, contact us and we'll help.

Changes

If we change how utilz handles data, for example by adding advertising, we'll update this page before the change takes effect and change the date at the top.
