How to convert gallons (UK) to liters

About gallons and liters
The UK (imperial) gallon is defined as exactly 4.54609 liters. Multiply UK gallons by 4.546 to get liters, or by 4.5 for a quick estimate that comes out about 1% low.
British fuel pumps sell by the liter, but car fuel economy, fish tanks, water butts and older recipes and manuals still use imperial gallons. The US gallon is a different, smaller unit of 3.785 L, so check which one a figure means.
