How to convert cups (US) to pints (US)
- Take the value in cups (US).
- Use the formula pints (US) = cups (US) ÷ 2.
- For example, 1 cup is 0.5 pt.
About cups and pints
Two US cups make a US pint, so divide cups by 2 to get pints. 1 cup is half a pint, 3 cups is 1.5 pints and 4 cups is 2 pints, which is a quart.
Converting cups to pints tells you how many cartons to buy when a recipe needs, say, 3 cups of cream and the shop sells pints. For UK pints, divide cups by 2.4 instead, since a UK pint is 20 percent bigger.
Examples
- 1 cup (half a US pint) is 0.5 pt
- 2 cups (one pint) is 1 pt
- 3 cups (the cream for a large batch of ice cream) is 1.5 pt
- 4 cups (a quart) is 2 pt
