How to convert pints (US) to cups (US)

- Use the formula cups (US) = pints (US) × 2.
- For example, 0.5 pt is 1 cup.
About pints and cups
A US pint is 2 cups, or 16 US fluid ounces. Multiply pints by 2 to get cups: half a pint is 1 cup and 3 pints is 6 cups.
Heavy cream, sour cream, ice cream and berries are often sold by the pint in the US, and recipes then ask for cups. A UK pint is bigger, 568 ml or 20 UK fluid ounces, which is 2.4 US cups. That difference matters for beer, milk and older British recipes.
Examples
- 0.5 pt (half a pint of cream) is 1 cup
- 1 pt (a pint of ice cream) is 2 cups
- 2 pt (a quart) is 4 cups
- 8 pt (a gallon) is 16 cups
