How to sign a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box or choose it. Every page is shown.
  2. Make your signature: draw it with a mouse, finger or pen, type your name in a handwriting style, or upload a photo of it. Then click Add signature to page while the right page is on screen.
  3. Drag the signature into place and pull its corner to resize it. Add it to more pages if needed, then click Download signed PDF.

A signature picture, not a certificate

There are two very different things called electronic signatures. The simple kind, which this tool makes, is a picture of your signature placed on the page. It shows your intent the same way ink on paper does and is widely used for forms, consent letters, timesheets and many contracts. The certified kind uses a digital certificate tied to your identity and seals the file, so any later change shows. Contracts that need that level, such as some property, court and government documents, name the service you have to use.

Getting a neat result

  • Draw your signature larger than you need on the pad; it’s saved at high resolution and looks crisp when shrunk on the page.
  • Blue ink makes a signed page easy to tell apart from a black and white copy.
  • If the document has a signature line, zoom in with your browser and drag the signature so it sits just on the line.
  • The signature is drawn into the page, so it prints and shows in every PDF reader.
