Add page numbers to a PDF

Number the pages of a PDF.

Runs in your browser. Nothing uploaded.

How to add page numbers to a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF into the box or choose it.
  2. Pick where the numbers go and how they look, for example bottom centre with Page 1 of 10. Tick Don’t number the first page for a cover page.
  3. Download the numbered PDF. Change any setting and it updates straight away.

Choosing a style

Style Looks like Good for
1 7 Books, reports, anything formal
Page 1 Page 7 Handouts and printed forms
Page 1 of 10 Page 7 of 12 Contracts and documents that must be complete
1 / 10 7 / 12 Slides and compact layouts

Showing the total, as in Page 7 of 12, lets a reader see at a glance that nothing is missing, which is why it’s common on contracts and applications.

Numbering a combined document

If you’re joining several PDFs into one, merge them first and add the numbers last, so they run in order across the whole file. To leave out a title page and a contents page, split them off, number the rest starting from 1, and merge the front pages back on.
