How to add a watermark to a PDF
- Drop your PDF into the box or choose it. Several PDFs at once work too.
- Type the watermark text, or pick Picture and choose your logo. Set the size, opacity, angle and position, and which pages to mark. The preview updates as you go.
- Download the watermarked PDF.
Common watermarks
| Text | Used for |
|---|---|
| CONFIDENTIAL | Documents for a limited group, such as contracts and reports |
| DRAFT | Versions that aren’t final yet |
| COPY or SAMPLE | Copies that shouldn’t be used as originals |
| Your name or company | Showing who a document came from, or who it was sent to |
Putting the recipient’s name in the watermark of each copy you send makes it clear where a forwarded copy came from.
Getting the look right
A diagonal mark across the middle is the classic style and covers the most of the page. Repeat across the page works well for photos and scans, where a single mark could be cropped away. For a quiet mark that doesn’t get in the way of reading, use a small level mark in a corner at around 40% opacity. Add the watermark after any other changes, such as adding page numbers or merging files.
