How to convert megabytes to terabytes
- Take the value in megabytes.
- Use the formula terabytes = megabytes × 0.000001.
- For example, 64,000 MB is 0.064 TB.
About megabytes and terabytes
In the decimal units used by drive makers and most cloud services, a terabyte is 1,000,000 megabytes. Divide MB by 1,000,000 to get TB: 250,000 MB is 0.25 TB and 2,000,000 MB is 2 TB.
Backup tools, databases and server logs often report sizes in MB even when the totals run into terabytes. Converting tells you what size drive or storage plan you need. Leave some room: drives show a bit less space than the label, and file systems need space of their own.
Examples
- 64,000 MB (a 64 GB phone) is 0.064 TB
- 256,000 MB (a 256 GB phone or SSD) is 0.256 TB
- 500,000 MB (half a terabyte) is 0.5 TB
- 2,000,000 MB (a 2 TB drive) is 2 TB
