How to convert torr to pascals
- Take the value in torr.
- Use the formula pascals = torr × 133.3223684.
- For example, 0.001 Torr is 0.133 Pa.
About torr and pascals
The torr is defined as exactly 1/760 of a standard atmosphere, so 1 Torr is 101,325 ÷ 760 = 133.322 Pa. Multiply torr by 133.322 to get pascals. A millitorr (mTorr) is a thousandth of that, 0.133 Pa.
Vacuum gauges, vacuum pumps, thin-film coating and lab equipment, especially older or US-made gear, read in torr or mTorr. Papers and SI datasheets use pascals, so the two need converting when comparing a pump spec with a process recipe.
Examples
- 0.001 Torr (one millitorr, a common vacuum gauge unit) is 0.133 Pa
- 1 Torr (one torr) is 133.32 Pa
- 4.59 Torr (the triple point of water) is 611.68 Pa
- 760 Torr (standard atmospheric pressure) is 101,325 Pa
