How to rotate a video
- Drop your video into the box or choose it. Several videos at once work too.
- Pick the turn: 90° clockwise, 90° anticlockwise or 180° for an upside-down video. The result plays next to the original so you can check it.
- Download the rotated video.
Why phone videos end up sideways
Phones record video in the same direction as the camera sensor and write a note in the file saying which way up it should be shown. If the phone guessed the orientation wrong, for example because it was lying flat when you pressed record, the note is wrong and the video plays sideways. Rotating fixes the note, or rebuilds the picture when needed.
Rotate, flip or crop
- Rotate turns the whole picture. Use it for sideways and upside-down videos.
- Flip mirrors it, so left becomes right. Use it for selfie videos where text reads backwards.
- Crop cuts the frame to a new shape, such as square or 9:16 for stories and short videos.
To cut the start or end off, use trim video, and to make the file smaller, compress video.
