How to compress a video
- Drop your video into the box or choose it.
- Pick a resolution and quality, or choose Target size and type the size the file has to fit, such as 25 MB for email. 720p at medium quality suits most sharing.
- Watch the result next to the original, then download the compressed MP4.
Choosing settings
| Setting | Good for |
|---|---|
| 1080p, high | Keeping detail for YouTube or editing later |
| 720p, medium | Email, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord and most sharing |
| 480p, small file | Very tight size limits and slow connections |
Why videos are so big
Phones record at high bitrates so footage stays sharp when you zoom or edit. A minute of 4K video can take 300 to 400 MB. Most places you share video show it at 720p or 1080p anyway, so scaling it down and lowering the bitrate gives a far smaller file that looks nearly the same on a phone or laptop screen.
