How to compress images
- Drop your images into the box, choose files, or paste a screenshot.
- Pick the output format, then drag the quality slider, or choose A file size and type the most it may weigh, such as 200 KB. Sizes update as you go.
- Drag the divider on the preview to compare, or press the magnifier to check details at 100%. Then download one image or all of them as a zip.
Which format should I pick?
- Keep format re-saves each image as what it already is. Use it when the file type has to stay the same, for example for an upload form that only accepts JPG.
- JPG is best for photos and works everywhere. It has no transparency.
- WebP is usually 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and keeps transparency. Every current browser shows it, but some older apps and upload forms reject it.
- PNG suits screenshots, logos and diagrams with sharp edges and text. At quality 100 it is lossless; lower settings use fewer colours for a much smaller file.
Resizing makes the biggest difference
A modern phone photo is around 4000 pixels wide, far more than any screen shows. Setting Max size to 1920 or 1280 pixels often cuts the file size by more than the quality slider does, and the image still looks sharp on a laptop or phone. The longest side is resized and the proportions stay the same.
