How to make an oval in Minecraft
- Enter the Width and Height in blocks. Choose Thin, Thick or Filled.
- Build from the chart, starting at the shaded centre lines. Point at a row to see which blocks it needs, and click blocks to tick them off as you go.
- Download the chart as a PNG or SVG if you want it on another screen or printed.
Where ovals work well
Ovals suit builds that are longer than they are wide: arenas, racetracks, ship hulls seen from above, ponds, garden beds, theatre floors and the base of an airship. They also make better windows and doorways than circles when the space is taller than it is wide.
Getting a smooth curve
Long thin ovals have long flat runs at the ends and quick steps at the sides. If the curve looks lumpy, change the width or height by one block and compare: odd and even sizes give slightly different steps. Ovals look smooth once the shorter side is about 15 blocks or more.
Build one quarter first, then mirror it across the shaded centre lines. For round towers and domes, the circle generator and sphere generator do the same job in other shapes.
