Online notepad

Notes that save as you type.

Notes are saved in this browser on this device only. They are never uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Nothing uploaded.

How to use the online notepad

  1. Click in the box and start typing, or paste some text. It saves a moment after you stop, and the bar shows Saved on this device.
  2. Press New note to start another note, or Open .txt to load a text file. Switch between notes with the list at the top. Focus fills the window with your note; Esc leaves.
  3. Press Copy to copy the note, Download .txt to save it as a file named after its first line, or Delete note to remove it.

What it’s handy for

  • Stripping formatting. Paste text from a web page or a document here and copy it out again. The bold, links, fonts and colours are gone, so it pastes cleanly anywhere.
  • A scratch pad. Phone numbers, order references, links and to-do lists that you need for an hour, not forever.
  • Drafting before you send. Write a long message or a form answer here first, so a timeout or a closed tab on the other site doesn’t eat it.
  • Counting as you write. The word and character count updates as you type, which helps with bios, captions and anything with a length limit.

Keeping your notes safe

The notepad saves to your browser, not to an account. That keeps it private and instant, but it has limits worth knowing. Each browser has its own storage, so notes typed in Chrome won’t show up in Firefox or Edge on the same computer. Clearing cookies and site data, or using a cleanup tool that does, removes them.

On a shared or public computer, remember that the next person to open this page in the same browser will see your notes. Press Clear before you leave. For anything important, use Download .txt now and then to keep a copy as a file.
