How to crop an image into a circle
- Drop in a photo, choose one or paste it. Add several to crop a whole team at once.
- Drag the circle onto the face, and use Zoom to make it smaller. Pick an output Size, such as 512 px for a profile picture.
- Pick PNG or WebP and download, or save them all as a zip.
Getting a good circle crop
A circle cuts off the corners of the square, so a crop that looks fine as a square can lose the top of someone’s hair or the edge of their shoulders. A few habits help:
- Leave room above the head. Put the eyes roughly a third of the way down the square, not in the middle.
- Keep the background plain. Busy backgrounds crowd the edge of the circle.
- Start large. Crop from the full-size photo, then shrink the result with resize image. Avatars are small, but sharp ones start big.
When you drop in a batch, every photo gets the same centred crop. Team photos look consistent if they were shot at the same distance; otherwise square them up one by one with crop image first.
Circle crop or rounded corners?
Both give transparent corners, but they do different jobs:
| Circle crop | Round corners | |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Always a perfect circle | Rounded rectangle, or a pill on wide images |
| Keeps the whole picture | No, only the centre square | Yes |
| Output size | A square of the shorter side | Same as the original |
If you want the full photo with softer edges, use round image corners.
