Which aspect ratio?
| Ratio | Use it for |
|---|---|
| 1:1 | Profile pictures, Instagram square posts, product shots |
| 4:3 | Most phone and compact camera photos, presentations on older screens |
| 3:2 | DSLR and mirrorless camera photos, 6 × 4 inch prints |
| 16:9 | YouTube thumbnails, desktop wallpapers, slides |
| 9:16 | Stories, Reels, TikTok and phone wallpapers |
Tips for a better crop
Place the main subject on one of the thirds lines that appear while you drag, rather than dead centre. Leave a little space in front of a face or a moving subject. And crop before you resize: cropping keeps every pixel you choose, while resizing a crop up afterwards makes it softer.
