Why developers on the West Coast convert to UTC
Cloud consoles, CI systems and databases usually show times in UTC. When you need to find the log lines for something that happened at 2 pm in San Francisco, you’re looking for 21:00 or 22:00 UTC depending on the season. A 2 am Pacific maintenance window is 09:00 UTC in summer, already mid-morning in Europe.
When you schedule recurring jobs, remember that a fixed UTC time moves by an hour on the West Coast twice a year. If the job must run at the same Pacific time, schedule it with the America/Los_Angeles zone instead of a UTC offset.
