PT, PST and PDT
PT means Pacific Time without saying which half of the year. PST, UTC−8, applies from early November to early March, and PDT, UTC−7, the rest of the year. Many people write PST all year, so the date is the safer guide. The same goes for GMT on the UK side: in summer the London clock is on BST.
Flights between the West Coast and London
Nonstop flights from Los Angeles or San Francisco to London take roughly 10 to 11 hours, and the 8-hour difference makes eastbound trips land the next day. A flight leaving Los Angeles at 5 pm that takes 10 hours 30 minutes arrives at 11:30 am the next morning in London. Going west it works the other way: an 11-hour flight leaving London at 1 pm lands in Los Angeles at 4 pm the same day.
