Runs in your browser. Nothing uploaded.

How to generate a random PIN

  1. Choose how long the PIN should be under Digits.
  2. Set How many PINs you want. Leave Skip easy-to-guess PINs ticked unless you need every possible code.
  3. Click Generate again for a new set, or download the list as a text file.

What counts as easy to guess

With the box ticked, the generator throws away any PIN that matches one of these patterns and draws again:

  • One digit repeated: 0000, 7777, 999999.
  • Straight runs up or down, including runs that wrap past 9 or 0: 1234, 4321, 7890, 2109, 345678.
  • Repeated pairs: 1212, 4545, 676767, 12121212.
  • Repeated blocks: 123123, 902902 and 8-digit ones like 12341234.
  • Years from 1900 to 2099 in 4-digit PINs, such as 1987 or 2024.
  • A few well-known 4-digit PINs: 2580 (straight down the middle column of a keypad), 0852 (the same column going up), 1004, 1122, 1313, 5683 and 6969.

Choosing a PIN you’ll remember

Random PINs are hard to guess partly because they’re hard to remember. Generate five or ten and pick the one that sticks best. Choosing from a short random list costs almost nothing in security. Avoid swapping it for a birthday, the end of your phone number or a PIN you already use elsewhere, since those are the first things someone who knows you would try. For anything you log in to, use the password generator instead.
