How to generate meta tags
- Fill in the page Title and Description; the bars show whether Google is likely to cut them. Add the page URL, site name and a share image URL.
- Check the previews: Google, Facebook and LinkedIn, and X. Choose the page type and the X card size.
- Press Copy tags and paste them inside the <head> of your page.
What each tag does
The title tag names the page in browser tabs, bookmarks and search results. The meta description is the summary search engines may show under it. The canonical link tells search engines which address is the main one when the same page can be reached by several URLs, such as with and without tracking parameters. The robots tag keeps a page out of search results when you choose noindex, for thank-you pages or internal search results.
The og: tags repeat the title and description for social apps and add the image, the page type and the site name, and the twitter: tags do the same for X. Writing them once here keeps all of them in step.
Check the result on your live page
After you publish, view the page source to make sure each tag appears once. Duplicates, often added by a theme and a plugin at the same time, can make apps pick the wrong one. Then share the link in a private chat or a test post to see the real preview. To fine-tune how the result looks in search, use the SERP preview.
