How to convert kilopascals to bar
- Take the value in kilopascals.
- Use the formula bar = kilopascals ÷ 100.
- For example, 100 kPa is 1 bar.
About kilopascals and bar
Divide kilopascals by 100 to get bar. 250 kPa is 2.5 bar and 35 kPa is 0.35 bar. The factor is exact because the bar is defined as 100 kPa.
Tire placards in Canada, Australia and New Zealand list kPa, while many pumps and gauges sold in Europe read in bar. Weather data uses hectopascals, and 10 hPa make 1 kPa, so 1,013 hPa is 101.3 kPa or 1.013 bar.
Examples
- 100 kPa (one bar) is 1 bar
- 101.33 kPa (standard atmospheric pressure) is 1.01 bar
- 240 kPa (a car tire placard value) is 2.4 bar
- 1,000 kPa (one megapascal) is 10 bar
