How to write in italics

  1. Paste your text into Input.
  2. It turns italic straight away. To slant only a title or a phrase, paste just those words.
  3. Copy the result and paste it next to your plain text.

When italics make sense

  • Titles of books, films, albums and shows: “Just finished 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐺𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝐺𝑎𝑡𝑠𝑏𝑦”.
  • Words from another language, the way print does it.
  • A word you’d stress out loud, where capitals would feel like shouting.
  • Quotes and captions that should read as a quieter aside.

Italics work best in small doses. A whole paragraph of slanted letters is tiring to read on a phone.

Three kinds of slant

This page gives serif italic, 𝑖𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑐, which matches the italics in most books. For more weight there’s bold italic, 𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒄, and for a cleaner look that fits app interfaces there’s sans-serif italic, 𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤. Both are on the fancy text generator, next to all the other styles.
