How to play Golf Solitaire
- Seven columns of five cards are dealt face up, with one card turned over to start the pile below.
- Click the bottom card of any column to play it onto the pile if it’s one rank higher or lower, in any suit. A 7 can go on a 6 or an 8, and you can go up and down as you like.
- When nothing fits, click the stock to turn a new card onto the pile. Clear all 35 cards from the columns to win.
Tips for winning Golf Solitaire
- Plan long runs. Look for chains like 5, 6, 7, 6, 5 across different columns before you play the first card. One stock card can start a run that clears half the table.
- Free the deep columns. A column with all five cards still in it hides the most cards, so prefer playing from it when two cards fit.
- Watch the kings. In the classic rules a king ends the run, since nothing goes on it. Play one when it opens a column, but expect to turn a stock card after it.
- Keep the stock for when you need it. Every stock card you turn is one fewer for later, and running out ends the game. Play every card you can before turning a new one.
About the game
Golf is a one-deck solitaire game. Thirty-five cards are dealt face up in seven columns of five, and the rest form the stock. You play the exposed cards onto a single pile, each one rank above or below the last, turning stock cards when you’re stuck. This version follows the classic rules, with an option to let aces and kings join up, and can deal only games that are possible to win.
