How to extract frames from a video
- Drop your video into the box or choose it.
- Choose Every few seconds and type the gap, At set times and type times like 0:05, 1:20.5, or Every frame. Pick JPG for small files or PNG for exact, lossless pictures.
- Check the frames in the preview and click one to save it alone, or download them all as a zip.
Picking the right frames
A video is a series of still pictures, usually 24, 25, 30 or 60 a second. Every frame saves all of them, which is useful for animation work or to find the one sharp frame in a burst of movement, but adds up quickly: 10 seconds at 30 frames per second is 300 images. Every few seconds is better for an overview of a long clip, a contact sheet or picking a thumbnail. At set times grabs exactly the moments you name.
A frame at a given time is the one on screen at that moment, the same picture a player would show if you paused there.
Uses
- Thumbnails and cover images: grab the best moment of a clip at full resolution.
- Sharing a moment: a still from a family video or a game clip, without the blur of a phone screenshot.
- Machine learning and analysis: one frame per second from footage for labelling or measuring.
- Animation and rotoscoping: every frame of a short clip to trace or edit.
To turn frames back into a moving picture, use video to GIF.
