How to cut a WAV file

  1. Drop your WAV file into the box or choose it.
  2. Drag the green handles on the waveform, or type exact start and end times. Press Space or Play selection to hear it.
  3. Press Cut and download. The new file contains only the part between the handles, or everything else if you chose to remove the selection.

Tips for a clean cut

  • Start and end cuts in quiet moments, between words or notes. If that isn’t possible, add a short fade in or out.
  • Click anywhere on the waveform to move the playhead, then use the buttons next to Start and End to snap a handle to it.
  • Drag across an empty part of the waveform to draw a new selection in one move.

About WAV files

WAV stores audio uncompressed, which is why recordings from microphones, audio interfaces and DAWs are often WAV and why the files are large: about 10 MB per minute at CD quality. Cutting out only the part you need is the simplest way to make one smaller without touching the sound.
