How to take the chimp test
- Press Start. The numbers 1 to 4 appear in random squares on the grid.
- Tap 1 first. The other numbers hide straight away, so tap the rest in order (2, 3, 4…) from memory.
- Clear a round and the next has one more number. A wrong square is a strike; three strikes end the game.
How the test works
Each round places numbers starting at 1 in random squares on the grid. You can look at them for as long as you like. The moment you tap 1, every other number is covered, and you have to tap them in order from memory.
The first round has 4 numbers and every cleared round adds one. Tapping a square out of order is a strike: the numbers are shown again, then you replay the same size of round with a new layout. Three strikes and the game ends.
How to do better
- Study before you tap. Nothing is timed before you press 1, so trace the path from 1 to the last number first.
- Remember a route. Thinking of the numbers as a path across the grid (up, across, down) is often easier than remembering each position on its own.
- Split it. Remember the first half as one shape and the second half as another.
