How to use the chess clock
- Pick a time control, such as 5 + 0 or 3 + 2, or type your own minutes and increment in seconds.
- To start, the player who moves second taps their side, which starts the other player’s clock. Or press Space to start Player 1’s clock.
- After each move, tap anywhere on your side (or press Space) to stop your clock and start your opponent’s. When a clock reaches zero it turns red and an alarm sounds.
Time controls
The presets cover the common speeds: bullet (1 + 0, 2 + 1), blitz (3 + 0, 3 + 2, 5 + 0, 5 + 3), rapid (10 + 0, 10 + 5, 15 + 10) and longer games (30 + 0, 90 + 30). For anything else, type the minutes (decimals work, so 0.5 is 30 seconds) and the increment in seconds. Settings can only change before a game starts or after a reset.
Under 10 seconds the clock shows tenths of a second, and the time is underlined so a player under pressure notices.
Using it at the board
Tap anywhere on your side of the screen: the whole half is the button, and it reacts the moment your finger touches it. A short click sound confirms each press; untick Click sound for silent play. The clock works for any two-player game with turns, such as Go, Scrabble or draughts, not just chess.
