How to use the 15 minute timer
- The timer is set to 15 minutes. Press Start or the space bar.
- Keep working in other tabs. The tab title counts down so you can check it at a glance.
- When the alarm rings, press space or Stop alarm. Press R to set it back to 15 minutes.
A quarter of an hour
Fifteen minutes is a natural unit of time: a quarter of an hour. It’s long enough to get real work done and short enough to fit between other things. Common uses are a homework block for younger children, a focused review of notes before an exam, a short meeting, a cleaning sprint, and a coffee break at work.
Fifteen minutes in the kitchen
Plenty of everyday cooking lands around fifteen minutes: many pastas, rice dishes, roasted vegetables and oven bakes. The cooking time on the packet or in the recipe is the one to follow, so type it into the timer if it differs, or press +1 min near the end if something needs longer. Because the time is in the tab title, you can keep a recipe open in another tab while it counts down.
For a full work-and-break rhythm, the Pomodoro timer switches between work and breaks for you.
