How to use the 10 minute timer
- The timer is set to 10 minutes. Press Start or the space bar.
- Leave the tab open. You can work in other tabs and the alarm still rings at zero.
- Press space or Stop alarm when it rings, or let it stop by itself after a minute.
Ten minutes is easy to start
A task that seems too big feels manageable when you only commit to ten minutes. That’s why ten minutes is popular for a first study block, a quick tidy of one room, clearing an inbox, practising an instrument or a short language lesson. Often you’ll keep going after the alarm; if not, you still made a start.
Ten minutes is also a common length for short home workouts, a walk around the block after lunch, and a reading session for children building the habit of reading every day.
Resting with a timer
For a short rest or nap, a timer means you can stop checking the clock. Some people like a steady sound in the background to rest to: the white noise generator runs in another tab while this one counts down. For a slightly longer nap, the 20 minute timer is the usual choice.
