How to convert yards to feet
- Take the value in yards.
- Use the formula feet = yards × 3.
- For example, 1 yd is 3 ft.
About yards and feet
A yard is exactly 3 feet, or 36 inches, so multiply yards by 3 to get feet. Fractions work the same way: a quarter yard is 0.75 ft (9 inches) and half a yard is 1.5 ft.
Fabric, turf, American football and golf all use yards, while rooms, fences and lumber in the US are measured in feet. Converting yards to feet is how you check whether a length of fabric or sod will cover a space measured with a tape.
Examples
- 1 yd (one yard) is 3 ft
- 10 yd (a first down in American football) is 30 ft
- 100 yd (an American football field between the goal lines) is 300 ft
- 1,760 yd (one mile) is 5,280 ft
