How to play Yacht Dice

  1. Choose Solo, Vs computer, or 2 to 4 players taking turns on one device. Press Roll to throw all five dice.
  2. Click the dice you want to keep, then roll the rest again. You get up to three rolls a turn.
  3. Pick a box on the score card to score your dice there. Each box is used once, so after 13 turns the card is full and the highest total wins.

Tips for a higher score

  • Aim for the top bonus. Three of each number in the top half adds up to exactly 63, which earns the 35 point bonus. Four 5s or 6s give you room to spare on another number.
  • Keep pairs early, sets later. On the first roll, keeping a pair or three of a kind is usually better than chasing a straight from scattered dice.
  • Go for straights from four in a row. With 2, 3, 4 and 5 you have two numbers that finish a large straight, so the chance of making it is good.
  • Save Chance. It’s the best place for a bad turn late in the game. Using it early for a small total wastes it.
  • Know where your zeros go. If you must score a zero, Ones costs the least. Yacht is the usual zero late in the game, since it’s the hardest box to fill.

About the game

Yacht is a dice game played with five dice and a score card of 13 boxes, filled one per turn. Each turn you roll up to three times and keep any dice you like between rolls. The rules here are the ones most people know from Yahtzee, including the 35 point top bonus, the 100 point bonus for extra yachts and the joker rule. You can play alone for a high score, against the computer or with up to three friends on one device.
