How to play Word Hunt
- Pick a board size and a time, then press Start. The letters stay hidden until the clock starts.
- Make words by joining letters that touch, across, up and down or diagonally. Drag across them, or type the word and press Enter. A tile can only be used once in a word.
- Words need at least 3 letters (4 on the 5 by 5 board). Longer words score more. When time runs out, you see every word the board holds.
Tips for finding more words
- Look for endings. Spot -ING, -ED, -ER and -S chains on the board, then work backwards from them. One good ending can turn several short words into longer ones.
- Add an S. If an S touches the end of a word you’ve found, the plural is a new word worth points.
- Hunt for long words early. Eight letters or more score 11 points, as much as eleven short words.
- Check diagonals. Diagonal joins are easy to miss, and they often hold the best words.
- Use common pairs. TH, CH, ST, ER and RE appear in many words; finding them on the board is a good starting point.
About the game
Word Hunt is a timed word game on a grid of letters, the kind made famous by Boggle. You join touching letters into words, each tile once per word, and score more for longer words. This version uses a public-domain English word list without offensive words, makes sure every board holds plenty of words, and shows the full list at the end so you can see what you missed.
