How to split text into lines
- Paste your text into Input.
- Choose the delimiter under Split at, or pick Custom and type your own, such as “ / ” or “ and ”.
- Copy the list. Each item is on its own line, with spaces trimmed and empty items removed.
When text needs splitting
- Tags or keywords exported as a single comma separated field.
- Email addresses copied from a To or CC line. Outlook separates them with semicolons, most other mail apps with commas.
- A row copied from a spreadsheet, which arrives tab separated.
- Values in a log line or export file separated by pipes.
Once each item is on its own line you can sort the list, remove duplicates or paste it into a spreadsheet column, where every line becomes a cell.
Trimming spaces and empty items
Real lists are rarely tidy. a, b,c ,d, has spaces in different places and a trailing comma. With both options on, each item is trimmed and the empty item after the last comma is dropped, giving four clean lines. Turn off Trim spaces when spaces at the edges are part of the data, and Remove empty items when a blank value means something, such as an empty column in a row.
