Remove EXIF data and metadata from photos

Strip location and metadata from photos.

How to remove EXIF data from a photo

  1. Drop your photos into the box, choose files, or paste one.
  2. Each photo is cleaned straight away. The preview lists what was found and removed: the GPS position, camera, lens and date. Tick Keep the date taken so JPG photos still sort by date.
  3. Download the clean photos one by one, or all of them as a zip.

What your photos reveal

Phones and cameras save extra information inside every photo. With location services on, that includes the exact GPS position where it was taken, often accurate to a few metres. Combined with the date and time, a few photos can show where someone lives, works or goes each day. Camera details and serial numbers can also link photos taken with the same device.

When to remove it

  • Selling something online, where photos are often taken at home.
  • Sharing photos of children, or posting to forums and personal blogs.
  • Sending pictures by email or as files in messaging apps.
  • Publishing images on your own website, where nothing strips the data for you.

To stop new photos being tagged at all, turn off location for the camera in your phone’s settings. On iPhone, you can also tap Options when sharing a photo and turn off Location.
