How to switch from remove.bg

  1. Drop in your photos, the same ones you would have sent to remove.bg. Many at once is fine; the first takes longer while the AI model downloads to your browser.
  2. Check each result with the before and after slider. Where the AI kept a shadow or cut off an edge, Touch up opens an erase and restore brush.
  3. Keep the background Transparent, or pick white or any color, then download each image or all of them as a zip. Every download is full size.

What changes on December 1

remove.bg was the default answer to “how do I remove a background” for years, and countless guides, school pages and tool lists still link to it. On December 1, 2026 its own site closes and background removal lives on inside Canva, where it is part of the paid plans. The desktop app, the Photoshop plugin and remove.bg accounts end the same day.

If you used remove.bg to cut out a product photo now and then, a profile picture or a batch of images for a shop, this page does the same job without an account. The tool above is the same one as on the background remover page; this page explains what is different for people coming from remove.bg.

Compared with remove.bg’s free plan

  • remove.bg’s free download was a small preview, and full size cost credits. Here the cut-out is scaled to your original photo, so a 4000 pixel photo gives a 4000 pixel PNG.
  • On remove.bg, bulk processing meant the desktop app or the API. Here you drop in as many photos as you like and download them as one zip.
  • remove.bg processed photos on its servers. Here nothing is uploaded, which matters for ID photos, children’s photos and unreleased products.
  • Mistakes are fixed on the spot: Touch up opens an erase and restore brush on the result, with zoom and undo.

What you give up: there is no API, no Photoshop plugin and no option to place the subject on another photo. The first run is slower while the model downloads, and older phones fall back to the smaller Fast model.
