How to convert radians to degrees
- Take the value in radians.
- Use the formula degrees = radians × 57.29577951.
- For example, 1 rad is 57.3 °.
About radians and degrees
Multiply radians by 180/π to get degrees. One radian is 57.2958°, so multiplying by 57.3 is a good mental shortcut.
A radian is the angle at the center of a circle where the arc length equals the radius. Math libraries such as Math.atan2 in JavaScript return angles in radians, so results usually need converting before you can show them to people.
Examples
- 1 rad (one radian) is 57.3 °
- 1.57 rad (π/2, a right angle) is 90 °
- 3.14 rad (π, a half turn) is 180 °
- 6.28 rad (2π, a full circle) is 360 °
