How to convert PNG to ICO

  1. Drop your image into the box or choose it. A square PNG or SVG works best.
  2. Choose the sizes to put in the file: the favicon set for websites, or the full set from 16 to 256 px for a Windows app or shortcut icon.
  3. Check every size in the preview, shown at its real size on a light and a dark background, then download the .ico file.

Small sizes need a simple picture

At 16 pixels there isn’t room for detail. Thin lines disappear and text becomes a blur. Icons that work well at small sizes have one bold shape, strong contrast and no more than a letter or two. If your logo is detailed, try a simplified version just for the icon.

Websites need more than an ICO

A favicon.ico on its own still works in every browser, but phones and tablets look for larger PNG icons and a web app manifest. The favicon generator makes the whole set from one image, together with the HTML to paste into your page.
