How to convert ICO to PNG
- Drop your .ico file into the box or choose it. Favicons and Windows icons both work.
- See every size stored in the icon, shown at its real size. Pick Largest only if you just want the biggest one.
- Download one size with its own button, or all of them as a zip.
What’s inside an ICO file
An ICO file starts with a short directory that lists each image: its width, height, colour depth and where its data starts. Since Windows Vista, each image can be a complete PNG, which is how most 256 px icons are stored. Smaller sizes are often older-style bitmaps with a separate transparency mask. Browsers only show one of the sizes when they open an ICO, so this tool reads the directory itself and turns every image into its own PNG.
Getting the best PNG
Pick the largest size when you need a picture to edit or reuse, and scale it down from there. Scaling a 16 px icon up gives a blurry result. If the largest size inside is small, the icon simply wasn’t made with a bigger version, and the original artwork is the only way to get one.
