How to convert a PDF to PNG
- Drop your PDF into the box and wait for the page thumbnails.
- Check that Format is set to PNG and pick a Resolution. Click the pages you want, or leave none selected to convert the whole document.
- Click the Download button. A single page saves as one PNG and several pages come in a zip file.
When PNG is the better choice
- Slides, diagrams and charts going into a presentation or wiki, where lines need to stay sharp.
- A clause from a contract or a table from a report shared in a chat, which people will zoom into.
- Sheet music, maps and floor plans, full of fine lines that JPG tends to blur.
- Pages you’ll edit or mark up further. A PNG can be saved again and again without losing quality, while every new JPG save adds a little more blur.
Picking a resolution
150 dpi is sharp enough for reading on a screen. Choose 300 dpi for printing or when you want to crop out a small detail later. Doubling the dpi doubles the width and height, so the image has four times as many pixels and the file grows to match.
Text in a PNG is part of the picture and can’t be selected or searched. If you need the words themselves, use PDF to text instead.
