- Press Copy link for the raw
mailto:link, or set the Link text and press Copy HTML for a link to paste into a web page. - Press Test in your email app to check the email opens the way you want.
How a mailto link is built
mailto:to@example.com,second@example.com?cc=boss@example.com&bcc=archive@example.com&subject=Hello%20there&body=Line%20one%0D%0ALine%20two
The addresses come right after mailto:. Then, after a ?, come the optional fields, joined with &. The rules are set by RFC 6068:
- Spaces become
%20, never+(some email apps would show the plus sign). - Line breaks in the body are
%0D%0A. &,?,#,%and=inside the subject or body must be encoded, or they would end the field early. A subject like “Q&A” becomesQ%26A.- Accented letters and emoji are encoded as UTF-8, which current email apps read correctly.
Using it on a web page
The HTML code box gives you a complete link such as <a href="mailto:...">Email us</a>, with the & between fields written as & so the HTML is valid. Paste it into your site builder’s HTML block or your own page.
Email addresses on public pages get collected by spam bots, mailto links included. If that worries you, a contact form keeps the address hidden. For a chat link instead of email, the WhatsApp link generator makes wa.me links the same way.
