How to convert Kelvin to Fahrenheit
- Take the value in Kelvin.
- Use the formula °F = (K − 273.15) × 9/5 + 32.
- For example, 0 K is −459.67 °F.
About Kelvin and Fahrenheit
To convert kelvin to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9/5 (1.8) and subtract 459.67. The long form gives the same answer: subtract 273.15 to get Celsius, multiply by 1.8 and add 32. 300 K is 80.33 °F.
Scientific papers, cryogenics and astronomy give temperatures in kelvin. Converting them to Fahrenheit puts very cold or very hot figures in terms a US reader can picture.
Examples
- 0 K (absolute zero) is −459.67 °F
- 77 K (about the boiling point of liquid nitrogen) is −321.07 °F
- 273.15 K (the freezing point of water) is 32 °F
- 5,772 K (the surface of the Sun) is 9,929.93 °F
