About Celsius and Fahrenheit
To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply by 9/5 (that is 1.8) and add 32. The two scales meet at −40, where −40 °C is also −40 °F.
Water freezes at 0 °C and 32 °F and boils at 100 °C and 212 °F, so 100 Celsius degrees span the same range as 180 Fahrenheit degrees.
Examples
- 37 °C (normal body temperature) is 98.6 °F
- 20 °C (a comfortable room) is 68 °F
- 180 °C (a moderate oven) is 356 °F
- −18 °C (a home freezer) is −0.4 °F
