How to convert a PDF to grayscale
- Drop your PDF into the box or choose it.
- Pick the quality. Standard suits reading on screen and office printing; Print keeps small text sharp on paper.
- Check the first page in the preview, then download the grayscale PDF.
How the conversion works
Each page is drawn at the quality you choose, every pixel is turned into a shade of grey using the standard Rec. 601 brightness weighting, and the pages are put back together at their original sizes. That is the reliable way to remove every bit of colour, including colour in photos, charts, highlighting and logos.
When to keep the original
The grayscale copy is made for printing and sending. Keep the colour original for editing, for searching, and for anything a screen reader needs to read aloud, since the converted pages have no text layer. To print in grey without making a new file, most printer settings dialogs also have a grayscale or black and white option.
