How to count business days
- Choose Days between dates and pick the start and end dates, or choose Add business days and enter how many.
- Set the Weekend days. Tick Skip US federal holidays if they apply, and type any other days off, one per line, like 2026-12-24 or 24 Dec 2026.
- Read the number of business days or the resulting date, with the weekend days and holidays left out and a month-by-month breakdown.
Business days, working days and weekdays
All three usually mean Monday to Friday, minus public holidays. Weekdays counts every Monday to Friday; business days and working days also leave out the holidays you choose. Which holidays count depends on your employer, state or country, which is why you can list your own.
Deadlines in business days
Contracts, shipping estimates and government forms often give deadlines like “within 5 business days”. These normally start counting the day after the event, which is what Add business days does. If a deadline lands on a holiday, it moves to the next working day. For plain calendar days, use the days between dates calculator or the date calculator.
