How to convert text to hex
- Type or paste your text into Input.
- Each byte appears as two hex digits. Choose what goes between bytes and tick Uppercase if you want 4F instead of 4f.
- Copy the hex, or switch to Hex to text to decode hex instead.
How hexadecimal works
Hexadecimal is base 16. It uses the digits 0 to 9, then the letters A to F for ten to fifteen. A byte holds a value from 0 to 255, and two hex digits cover exactly that range, from 00 to ff. That’s why programmers show raw data in hex: it’s much shorter than binary and every byte is always exactly two characters.
Where you see text as hex
- Hex editors and memory dumps, which show a file byte by byte with the readable text alongside.
- Escape sequences in code, such as
\x48in C and Python strings. - Percent-encoded URLs, where a space becomes
%20, the hex value of its byte. - Network captures and protocol documentation, which list messages as bytes.
