How to convert RGB to CMYK
- Type the RGB value into Color, such as rgb(220, 20, 60). A HEX code like #dc143c works too.
- The CMYK percentages show on the right in the order cyan, magenta, yellow, black.
- Click the CMYK value to copy it.
Getting a screen color ready for print
Screens mix red, green and blue light, while printers lay down cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink. Business cards, flyers and packaging files usually need CMYK, so a color picked on screen or taken from a website has to be converted first.
Very bright screen colors such as pure #00ff00 green or #0000ff blue fall outside what ink can reproduce. They still get CMYK numbers here, but the printed result will look duller than on your monitor. Picking a slightly softer color for print avoids surprises.
Reading the result
Each of the four numbers is the ink coverage from 0% to 100%. cmyk(0%, 91%, 73%, 14%) means no cyan, a lot of magenta, a fair amount of yellow and a little black, which prints as a strong crimson. To go the other way, from a print value to a screen color, use CMYK to RGB.
