How to convert millimeters to centimeters
- Take the value in millimeters.
- Use the formula centimeters = millimeters ÷ 10.
- For example, 5 mm is 0.5 cm.
About millimeters and centimeters
A centimeter is 10 millimeters, so divide mm by 10 to get cm. 25 mm is 2.5 cm, 6 mm is 0.6 cm and 120 mm is 12 cm. On a ruler the small marks are millimeters and every tenth one is a centimeter.
Engineering drawings, screws, sheet materials and rainfall are given in mm, while everyday sizes are easier to picture in cm. Converting is also handy for clothing and furniture listings that switch between the two.

- 18 mm (a common thickness of plywood and MDF) is 1.8 cm
